Sheer Delight: How to Wear Sheer Tops

Monday, March 20, 2017

Sheer, slightly see-through tops are a major trend for SS17… but how on earth do you wear the trend without an enduring an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction?  It’s not as tricky as it seems – and the resulting outfits are totally worth it.

First rule of sheer club? Be confident! This is a great catwalk trend and your body is something to be proud of, so if you’re going to embrace the trend, go out with your head held high and own it. Secondly, it’s a layering all-star, especially while we’re still in-between seasons. Think a long sleeve sheer body under dungarees or your fave lacy crop top under a sheer ruffle tee.

Jeans are the number one accompaniment to a sheer top. Not only do they lend that mesh a bit of street style edge, but it makes sheer tops appear less overtly sexy – and therefore instantly cooler. This Geo Embroidered Mesh Dress (£49) is one of our favourite pieces, and we love it styled up here with all black errythaang, contrasted with a pure pop of colour in our Lively Red Slingback Court Shoes (£39). Our  Square Neck Crop Top is the perfect under layer… and luckily we’ve got them in eight different colours, so there’s an option for any top!

A daytime tee gets an instant update when you choose a mesh version; this Tulle T-Shirt (£32) looks great with a pair of high waisted jeans and a cute bra top underneath – we love this Crochet & Mesh Bra top (£22) to show some extra detailing.

Patterns and print are a great way to work the trend, as they distract from the see-through factor. We’re obsessed with this Lilac Blossom Mesh Body, £28 as a going out top – simply wear over a chic and minimal t-shirt bra for real Carrie Bradshaw vibes. If you want to preserve our modesty  a bit further, we love this Black Military Blazer (£39) to complete the look.
