The best way to beat the January blues is to plan a holiday – fact (okay, maybe not scientifically, but we’re sure the research is out there somewhere). We’ve come up with a top 5 of dream places we’re dyinggg to visit this year, so you’ve been warned – wanderlust is at an all-time high. 2018, now boarding 🛫
☀️ New Orleans
‘There are a lot of places I like, but I like New Orleans better’, so said the great Bob Dylan. And who are we to argue? There’s Mardi Gras, jazz bars, and a whole h-o-s-t of enthralling architecture to take in. Not to mention the incredible Creole/multinational cuisine – we’re talking fresh fish, béarnaise and gumbo. We’ll be taking a trip to the Big Easy this year, without a doubt. As they say in Nola, ‘laissez les bon temps rouler’!
☀️ Valletta, Malta
Valletta is set to become a hub for holidaymakers as the European Capital for Culture 2018, with more than 400 events to celebrate. Just three hours from the UK (that’s three episodes of your latest faveee series, doncha know?), the Mediterranean islands are perfect for culture connoisseurs, fun-seeking foodies and beach bums alike. Now, where did we put that passport…
☀️ Talinn, Estonia
Named as Lonely Planet’s best value destination for 2018, there’s no way we could leave this global gem off our list. And with Estonia’s Independence Day in February, it’s perfect for an unforgettable break. Watch breathtaking Baltic Sea views from your cosy guest-house before heading out for a stroll to Old Town, and grab a bite to eat from the authentic food trucks. Bit of a night owl? Wander over to the bohemian bars of Telliskivi Creative City, and nurse your hangover with a quaint bike tour to Pirita Beach. Bliss.
☀️ Amsterdam by Eurostar
When we say ‘Eurostar getaway’, you might assume Paris (been there, done that), Brussels, or Belgium for the Christmas markets if you’re fancy. Grab your girls and get a ‘Dam 18’ group chat going, ‘cos Eurostar are offering a direct service to the Netherlands! A city filled to the brim with culture (there’s 44 museums and 1,500 bars 😏), get set for canals and coffee shops galore. All that’s left is to decide is, window or aisle seat?
☀️ Essaouira, Morocco
Okay, so this might have started as a haphazard dream influenced by an Uber driver (shout out to Mo), but Morocco is THE place to be this year – especially if you’ve been lucky enough to have already visited the more touristy areas. Deemed as ‘a laid-back alternative to Marrakesh,’ Essaouira is a seaside city on Morocco’s Atlantic coast – perfect for kite-surfing and evening beach strolls. With plenty of free attractions (festivals, Game Of Thrones-featured locations, galleries around the 18th-century medina and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to name but a few), we don’t know where to start. Get. Booking. Now.
So, where to, girl?🛬
